 Hunger Walk 2023

Word is out, and teams are being formed! Will your church be the one to take home the trophy this year for largest team, or even top team fundraiser? Awards are presented for the largest team, the top team fund-raiser, and the top individual fund-raiser; so invite your church members, form a team,  and join in the fun, while making a great impact on Catawba County hunger.

To get involved, your members can register, donate, become a sponsor, join a team or create a team. (Note: A $25 donation is required per person to receive an event t-shirt.)

ECCCM's First Director of Volunteer Engagement, Allen Sherrill

Allen Sherrill (pictured above with a dear volunteer) is now the volunteer engagement director for ECCCM.  With this new position, we plan to place a greater focus on the volunteer experience.  We want to make sure that all our volunteers feel welcome, appreciated, and fulfilled through their service here.  While this position is new for Allen, he is far from new to ECCCM.

Allen really began his work at ECCCM as a volunteer in high school.  Allen would come twice a week and volunteer a couple hours in the morning.  He worked with Charlie Bunn in the old food pantry in the old building.  There, he learned how to use a pallet jack, properly sort groceries, build carts, and many other skills that would be invaluable later down the road.  While serving at ECCCM and the Corner Table, Allen developed a love for service and nonprofits.  After high school, Allen went to college at North Carolina State University and received an associate degree in nonprofit studies to go along with his Bachelor of Arts in history.

In February 2017, after Allen had completed his Master of Arts in history at Appalachian State, a position became available at ECCCM to work in the food pantry as the food pantry assistant.  Allen jumped at the opportunity and began his formal employment with ECCCM.  He served as the food pantry assistant for a year and a half until he took over as the director of food pantry operations in August 2018.  During his tenure, Allen has developed a great appreciation for and knowledge of how to work with volunteers. He now hopes to take this experience and translate it into an even greater effect for the ministry and all those who serve.

Volunteers have always been in the lifeblood of ECCCM.  We absolutely could not serve the growing numbers we continue to see without the contributions of many wonderful people throughout our community; folks who have become like family members to us.  If you would like to learn more about volunteering, would like to schedule yourself or a group to serve, or would be interested in having Allen come speak to your church, school, club, or company, you need only to contact him.  His number is (828) 446-5418 and his email address is a.sherrill@ecccm.org.  Allen will be happy to speak to you anytime about volunteering or other matters concerning ECCCM.
