Time to Feel, to Know and to Lead
|
These are difficult hours for those of us who seek more for women and girls – more safety, more justice, more opportunity at every level in every aspect of society. This election not only slammed a door on a chance to have a woman leading in the White House after 248 years. This election installs once again a regime that has shown utter disdain for us -- our rights and our voice in every category. Beyond that, this election reveals a deeply disheartening chasm in the nation as millions of people voted for that regime – knowing and hearing the demeaning, violent language and oppressive plans they expressed, still millions voted against women and for that regime. What can we do? Feel it, recognize the fear and loathing that are out there, and then focus on the women and men who stand together and stand with us as we face whatever is next. We will not stop fighting to make our culture, our communities, our civilization better for all, open to all, nurturing for all. On Nov. 14, come join a conversation and celebration of those who have nurtured, who have sacrificed and led and who continue to raise their voices as we host “Grateful for Great Women” at WomenTalk. Come to First Congregational Church, 1000 South Cooper, at 6 p.m. to hear Memphis Flyer’s 2024 Best Local Singer Joyce Cobb, 2002 Woman of Achievement for Initiative; Ines Negrette, founder of CasaLuz Memphis and 2017 WA for Determination; Rev. Roz Nichols, 2005 WA for Determination and attorney, mediator and civil rights warrior Jocie Wurzburg,1990 WA for Courage
