Habitat FM Announced at Hard Hat Breakfast

On Tuesday, May 12, more than 200 local partners joined us at Bell Tower for the inaugural Hard Hat Breakfast. The event raised funds for our 2026 home builds and served to launch a new chapter in our history, as we debuted our new name: Habitat for Humanity Fargo Moorhead Area.

The name change to Habitat for Humanity Fargo Moorhead Area (or Habitat for Humanity FM, for short, and Habitat FM, for shorter) was initiated to more clearly identify where we operate and who we serve. The simple truth is that Lake Agassiz is a bit confusing for a lot of our partners. The lake has been gone for thousands of years, and it occupied what are now the service areas of several Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the region. By linking our work to the growing Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Area, we hope to loudly and clearly state that we build homes here, serving the people throughout our Cass and Clay county communities.

While we've initiated most of the necessary steps for this transition, you'll still find us in places as Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity (who knew changing a Facebook page name could be so difficult...?). However, we expect to complete this transition through the summer.

Most importantly, we want you to know that a few changes on our letterhead are just that, and we are still just as energized and committed to building hope, opportunity, and affordable homes as we've ever been.

Thank you for being a part of it.

Construction Volunteers Can Register Online

Sunshine and warm weather brings a new season of home construction to Habitat FM. That means our construction calendar is now open, and we are accepting volunteer registrations! If you'd like to join us on the build site this summer, check out our online calendar here or through the link below. We have a couple of spots available landscaping this week (June 9-11) and then we get busy in July framing our 35th Anniversary and Women Build homes in south Moorhead.

If you have questions about volunteering, reach out to Habitat FM's Community Engagement Program Manager Davin Wait by email at davin@habitatfm.org or by phone at (218) 512-0145.

Individuals like you bring people together to build homes, community, and hope across the greater Fargo-Moorhead area. We cannot thank you enough.

At Lake Agassiz Habitat, we want you to be able to maximize your impact on the families in our community with the resources you have. Although tax season has come to an end, it’s never too late to think strategically about your finances and the smartest ways to continue building strong and stable communities.

That’s why we’re re-sharing a few thoughtful ways your assets can work harder for affordable housing.

Gifts made through appreciated stock or cryptocurrency, IRA charitable distributions, or donor-advised fund grants may allow you to donate more generously while potentially lowering taxes or using funds you’ve already designated for philanthropy.

For example:

● Appreciated assets like stock or crypto can help you avoid capital gains taxes.

● IRA charitable gifts (for eligible donors) can count toward required minimum distributions.

● DAF grants provide a powerful way to make the most of the funds you’ve already set aside.

Use this secure online tool today to explore these options even further and donate within minutes. Let's work toward ensuring that everyone in the greater FM area has a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home.

Also, curious about how recent tax law changes can impact your giving? This blog post may help.
