Good day friends - hard to believe it's mid September!

We are grateful for your continuing support.

Recap of What We Do - Old and New

St. Peter’s Kitchen, Inc is a 501 © 3 nonprofit and has been serving the westside of Rochester since 1982.

We work to reduce food insecurity by having a lunch program Monday through Saturday. Lunches are tasty and nutritionally balanced.

A self select pantry is open Tuesday and Thursday mornings and a working family pantry on Saturday.

Social services are provided, along with a Christmas Toy Store, Thanksgiving Baskets, Backpack and other giveaways.

Our newest service is a Zen room with Tele-Med and Tele-Therapy capacity in conjunction with His Branches, Inc a Community Health Center practice.

Food Insecurity Rises

Food insecurity has increased over the past few years as a result of inflation and reduction in Covid era benefits.

According to the USDA used at home food inflation was 5.0% in 2023 and 11.4% in 2022 and outpaced increases in wages and social security.

Lower income individuals spend a greater proportion of their income on food than higher income individuals thus having a disproportionate negative impact on retirees and working families.

Last Fiscal year we served over 157,000 meals

Meals served to seniors in July and August this year were 5,797, an increase of 2,182 (60%) over the same period last year.

The number of households using the pantry in July and August this year was 848, an increase of 664 households over the same period last year.

Background information on healthy eating and food insecurity

Healthy eating is a key determinant of one's overall health. A balanced diet provides the body with essential nutrients needed to function properly, helps maintain a healthy weight, supports immune function, and reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.

Proper nutrition also supports mental health, energy levels, and overall well-being. In combination with other factors like physical activity, sleep, and stress management, healthy eating plays a fundamental role in long-term health.

The staff at St. Peter’s Kitchen, together with our community support always provides well-balanced meals.
