Dear St. Peter's Kitchen Family,
I don’t know how to begin to thank you, but I want you to know what your kindness and support means to families like mine.
Several years ago, my world turned upside down. I was living with Parkinson’s disease and a cancer diagnosis. Around that same time, I became the guardian of eight of my grandchildren, two of whom live with disabilities. I traded my life for theirs, and I would do it again in a heartbeat, but it wasn’t easy.
We struggled to keep food on the table. Some days I didn’t know how we’d make it to the next week. That’s when I found St. Peter’s Kitchen.
The people there didn’t just give me meals; they gave me hope. They made sure we had hot food when I was too sick to cook. They helped me get coats for the kids in the winter and backpacks when school came around. They helped me fax paperwork, and budget. Every time I walked through those doors, I felt seen, cared for, and part of something bigger.
One Christmas, I was worried my grandkids wouldn’t have anything under the tree. Then Amy from St. Peter’s told me a family wanted to “adopt” us for the holidays. Five carloads of gifts showed up at my door that year. I’ll never forget it. The neighbors were peeking out their windows! My grandkids still talk about that Christmas.
I’ve been through a lot—cancer, disability, raising a house full of kids—but because of St. Peter’s Kitchen and people like you, I’m not afraid of the future anymore. Today, I’m excited about my grandkid’s future, and my heart is full of gratitude.
I wanted to write to thank you personally. Your generosity helped us through the hardest time in our lives. I hope you’ll keep helping families like mine this holiday season.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and God bless you for the hope you bring to others.
