This Woodson Chorale pictured above will be performing in Salzburg, Prague, and Vienna from June 16-24, 2025.  During their time in Europe, they will perform in beautiful cathedrals and be inspired by visits to the houses where Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, and Strauss lived. Cheers to a musical adventure!

Alumni Spotlight

Let’s check in with Hunter Browning,

Woodson Class of 2018!

What's your favorite Woodson Chorus memory?
It is hard to choose one memory that is a favorite, but one that kept coming back to me while thinking was my sophomore year. We were on the Spring trip and the select vocal ensemble had an impromptu rehearsal in the parking lot of our hotel. It was some of the best singing we had ever done, and there were a number of hotel guests who came out of the lobby and hotel restaurant to listen to us sing!

What role did music play in your life after high school?
Music has played a HUGE role in my life post-high school! I went to college to study Choral Music Education at the University of Delaware. In college, my three focuses were voice, piano, and conducting. I had the honor of singing in the University of Delaware Chorale and TAing the University Singers which is the school's Advance Treble Ensemble. It was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had!
What are you up to now?
I now live outside of Raleigh, North Carolina in a town called Apex and I teach Middle School Chorus at Apex Middle! I work closely with the two high schools that my kids feed and I accompany both of the high school choirs. I am the conservatory music director of a community theatre company, The Carolina Academy of Performing Arts or CAPA. My oldest sister, Olivia, lives in Raleigh and it is such a joy of mine to get to visit my niece and nephew at least once a week! My parents just made the move to North Carolina, so it is very nice to be near the family again!

What advice would you give to current Woodson Chorus students?
My biggest piece of advice would be to sing in choir in college! We are so fortunate to have such an amazing high school choral experience and college choir is high school choir x10! Whether or not you are studying music in college, most schools have a general choir that students of any major can participate in! Never stop singing! Woodson High School chorus changed my life for the better, and I am so lucky I get to have my own version here in NC :)

Thank you Hunter for sharing your experience!

Program Updates

Congratulations to all our ensembles for earning superior ratings at March’s Assessments at George Mason University.  Special congratulations to Ms. Moir for rocking her role as our district’s chairperson!

Woodson Chorus is very pleased to be represented by eight students at the Virginia State Choir on April 24-26th in Richmond, VA.  All State was highly competitive this year and we are very proud of our students for achieving this honor.

From March 26-30th, more than sixty Chorus students enjoyed an epic trip to Nashville, TN.  The students enjoyed music and line dancing in the Honky Tonks of Broadway, a clinic with Professor Mary Biddlecombe at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, a visit to RCA studios, a show at the Grand Ole Opry and a day in Dollywood.
