School starts next week, but SLED stayed busy in the summer - supporting the district and high school with internship stipends for summer internships, launching a new program in partnership with Cal State East Bay, Ghirardelli college internships, and planning our next events. |

College 'Camp' for High Schoolers |
|
|
|
We were so excited to pilot a new program with Cal State East Bay. A 4-day 'camp', the schedule included sessions with student leaders, campus and facilities tours, expert info from department heads and professors, info sessions with admissions and finance, meals in the dining hall, and an overnight in the dorms. And it was FREE for students!
It's vital for students to get a glimpse of a real college experience, and to be able to envision themselves there - PLUS learning how to afford the college experience. We look forward to growing the program next year and making it even more dynamic, fun, and inspirational for students. |

Summer Internship Expo |
|
The SLHS College & Career Team outdid themselves with this year's Internship Expo.
Students shared their job experiences with visitors and staff. It was so impressive to hear about the skills they honed, the new relationships they forged, and how the experience affected their potential future paths.
From teaching kids to skateboard to observing surgical procedures, the range of tasks the students got to participate in is extensive. Being able to talk to the students directly and hear their presentations makes it clear how impactful these opportunities are.

Ghirardelli indeed makes life a bite better, especially for the college interns who benefited from outstanding career-level work experience this summer. With SLED's assistance in sourcing student info, Ghirardelli dedicates multiple internships opportunities exclusively to San Leandro High graduates. Their presentations at the end of the summer always impress, and Ghirardelli's commitment to the development of local students is not only generous but hugely impactful for the interns.
