Great Things Happen in San Leandro Schools!

This month, our programs committee has been hard at work checking in with teachers and administrators to see how their SLED Mini-Grants and Field Trips have been going. The response has been AMAZING!

We've heard how students were transported out of this world at Chabot Space & Science Center, put themselves at the forefront of technology and exploration at the San Jose Tech Museum, and visited the past with a trip to Ardenwood Historical Farm. Some field trips, like Wildcare, even came to the classroom to give students' close-up interactions with animals and to learn about the ecosystems and environment in which they thrive.

The huge response to this year's Mini-Grants and Field Trips reinforces our commitment to providing funding that allows for these important learning opportunities. Every enrichment makes each classroom lesson come to life, making it easier for students to understand and absorb. These are not 'extras' - they are vital to our students' education experience!

Entrepreneurship From Kindergarten to High School

SLED got to be a special guest at Ms. Fernandez' kindergarten 'Shark Tank' business presentations - we dare anyone to say no to making a deal with these fantastic business ideas and young entrepreneurs! With an audience of VIPs (students' families), a judging panel including local business representatives (and SLED!), these brave kindergarteners presented their ideas and absolutely nailed their presentations. This project brings together core curriculum concepts in a fun and engaging way. Teachers like Ms. Fernandez are simply inspirational, and SLED is proud to be able to support their efforts.

ED Kate Miller and board member Tanya Forsberg also got to be guest judges for San Leandro High Business Academy's Business Plan Competition. The passion and skill on display was impressive, and it was incredibly difficult to choose a winner. Students were polished, prepared, and full of enthusiasm for their ideas.

Putting their ideas and research on display is an important piece of their entrepreneurship lessons, and it is so exciting to see the opportunities that students have at San Leandro High.

Your generous donation can make a significant difference in sustaining these experiences that our students truly deserve.

Your support is essential in maintaining enriching educational opportunities for our students. In these challenging times, budget constraints threaten the availability of vital programs such as field trips and mini-grants that enhance learning and broaden horizons.  Public education increasingly relies on the generosity of community members like you to bridge the gap and ensure every child has access to a well-rounded education. Together, we can uphold the quality and diversity of educational experiences, empowering the next generation to thrive.
