July is a bit quieter at SLED HQ, giving us time to plan programs and enrichments that benefit ALL students in SLUSD! High school summer internships are in full swing (SLED's own intern, Sarah Zhang, is working on a fun highlight video for us - we look forward to sharing at an upcoming event . . . ), Pioneer Pathways at CSU East Bay is coming later this month, and lots of exciting things are shaping up on the horizon.

SLED is pleased to welcome our newest board member, James Maes.

James is recently retired from his professional career with the Department of Energy (among other positions), and now dedicates his time to assistant coaching the SLHS track and cross country teams, serving as a commissioner for the Recreation and Parks commission for the city of San Leandro, and occasional emcee and auctioneer extraordinaire for SLED (😉). He and his wife Nicole ( a teacher at Garfield Elementary) have 3 kids, all of whom are in (or have graduated) from San Leandro schools.

He is a fantastic addition to our dedicated volunteer board, and we are thrilled to have his support.

Our friends at Kaiser Permanente are hosting a backpack giveaway - the perfect way to ready your student for the new school year (which is approaching faster than you think!).

Open to all San Leandro residents with students in K-8 (student must be present to receive supplies).
