SLED News & Updates - November 2024

On November 2, Girls on the Run teams from Halkin, McKinley, Monroe, and Washington gathered at the San Leandro Marina with other teams from throughout the bay area to run a 5K - the culminating event of their fall semester of Girls on the Run after school running club enrichment - funded by SLED. This is an amazing program that not only gets girls moving, but also enforces lessons in teamwork, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. Next semester, Girls on the Run will be at all elementary school sites courtesy of SLED funding and your support!

Madison Mustangs are Environmental Detectives

When Lawrence Hall of Science brings a festival to school, learning comes to life. The Environmental Detectives festival tasked students with figuring out who and what was polluting the local pond and making its fishy friend sick. It is such a fun way to engage students of all ages!

SLED's ED was on hand to volunteer along with some superstar Madison parents. We love providing LHS festivals and assemblies to our elementary school sites.

Elementary School Parent Group SLED Grants

This year, SLED has added grants for each elementary school parent group to assist with one of their community events.

Our hope is that it can help their events come to fruition, and of course to let more people know about the work that we do.

So far this year, SLED parent group grants have been used to help fund movie nights, Trunk or Treat events, and more. Parent groups are a hugely necessary support for our students - keep up the great work!

Once again, SLED will be at It's a Wonderful Night on December 6, selling spiced cider and mulled wine. It's such a fun downtown tradition - bring the family and kick-start the holidays. See you there!
