SLED truly appreciates getting the nod as a candidate for the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce's Best of San Leandro awards in the Home, Family, and Community category.  We do our best to make a big impact despite our small size, and we are always pleased to have an opportunity to represent what we do to our various community audiences. Plus the Best of San Leandro event is always a fun time!

 

We have so much admiration for our fellow nominees who do so much good for our community and are pleased to have such wonderful local partners with whom to collaborate.

Mini-Grants and Science Brought to You By SLED

Another month, and another fantastic Lawrence Hall of Science assembly, this time 'Phenomenal Physics' at Madison Elementary. It's clear the students really threw themselves into the challenge!

 

We also got the BEST pictures from Ms. Valvani's first graders who produced beautiful self portraits for their body project that explores race, identity, and colorism.

 

Ms. Beninsig at McKinley Elementary reports that their SLED Mini-Grant has been a success: 'The new dictionaries have been amazing! Yesterday was the first day we used them, and the improvement was immediately noticeable. Our old dictionaries were falling apart and often didn’t even have the words we were looking up. The new ones, however, offer simplified and straightforward definitions, and they even include synonyms to help students better understand the words. It’s truly been a game-changer!'

It's hard to believe, but SLED's Spring Fling - our biggest fundraiser of the year - is just 10 weeks away!

 

SLED depends upon our fundraising events to ensure funding for our many important and impactful programs that directly benefit over 8,000 local public school students. But as always, you can expect fun, friends, and a festive party – for an amazing cause.
