It's officially . . . Autumn! . . . Fall! . . . Spooky Season! . . . College Application Era!

It's such a busy time of year at schools and at SLED! Since our last update, we've hosted two college workshops (and another one next week especially for high school athletes), welcome two new board members, attended school events, the Eden Area ROP Awards, the Chabot College foundation gala, launched our new monthly giving community, the Extra Credit Club, and heard from our wonderful educators about how SLED grants are helping their classrooms and students.

Meet Emily Kaplan!

Meet Bethony Genovea!

Emily Kaplan has more than 25 years of experience working in education, public health, fund development, and community-based programs.

She currently serves as Director of Fund Development for Alameda County Health and previously served as Development Director for the San Leandro Unified School District, where she worked to bring additional resources and opportunities to San Leandro students.

A founding member of the San Leandro Education Foundation, Emily is excited to return and continue supporting educational opportunities for students throughout the district. SLED is so happy to have Emily back on board and volunteering with SLED where her expertise will aid our funding efforts and beyond!

Bethony is a compassionate Doctor of Chiropractic with over 15 years of experience providing gentle, personalized Chiropractic Care to her patients.

Bethony is a devoted wife and mother (her kids attend San Leandro schools!) who values family, community and building meaningful relationships. She is pictured here after speaking with 2nd grade students about Filipino culture in celebration of Filipino American History Month.

Whether she's serving patients in her office, supporting local events or connecting with families in the community Bethony brings kindness, authenticity and heart into everything she does. SLED is thrilled to have Bethony as part of our volunteer board - we know she will make an impact!

Local Business Partners Support Education

This week's Eden Area ROP Awards event showcased local students and the wonderful business partners who help create meaningful internships and other on-site learning opportunities for them.

SLUSD's awardee this year was Kaiser Permanente - and for SO many good reasons.

Kaiser not only created a mentorship program for San Leandro High students, but they also provide summer internship experiences, participate in career day events, AND are generous event sponsors for organizations like SLED. We are grateful for Kaiser and other local business partners who support education and are committed to strengthening our community.

The SLED programs team has steadily been building a super informative set of workshops and presentations that are FREE to students and are designed to help provide the most information possible to make their college dreams a reality.

The latest offering is a fantastic and thorough session designed especially for high schoolers who are interested in pursuing athletics post high-school. While this session is more for freshman, sophomores, and juniors, all grade levels are welcome to attend.

Hear about the various requirements for different divisions, get info about Honest Game, and make sure you're on track to dunk, hurdle, serve, and dive your way to college.

Join SLED's Extra Credit Club

Nonprofits like SLED don't run solely on big checks from corporations — over 80% of charitable giving comes from individuals.

For years, our "Buck-a-Month" Club showed what small, consistent gifts can do. Today, as school budgets tighten, we're launching the next chapter: the Extra Credit Club, SLED's new monthly giving community.

Members get early event access, exclusive pricing, an annual Digital Yearbook, and Extra Credit Club swag — but most of all, the knowledge that they're helping local students thrive.
