Ten years is a huge milestone in the life of a nonprofit organization, especially one that quite simply asks people to show compassion for ALL living beings. It's a daunting mission, especially in the heart of rural Middle Tennessee.
We had EIGHT new pig intakes last month, and Baby Ozzie was one of the luckiest of the bunch. He's a 7-month old Yorkshire who escaped a home that was growing him for slaughter. This breed isn't really kept for anything else. On escape, he was badly injured by what could only be a vehicle accident, and he landed in a rural county shelter. His fate was still very perilous, until we scooped him up to safety.
Ozzie had NUMEROUS orthopedic injuries, which we had evaluated at the University of Tennessee. We also consulted with surgeons at Cornell University on his behalf. The consensus was that the best we can do is to allow him to live a pampered SANCTUARY BABE life for as long as his body is able. The injuries were too far healed to try any intervention, and we're now tasked with supporting his quality of life as he grows. We don't know how much time he will have before the weight of his body becomes too much to manage, but we're planning to make the most out of every second!
Odd Man Inn exists to provide lifelong Sanctuary Care to vulnerable animals and educate to inspire compassionate living. Ozzie is a perfect example of how we are fulfilling our mission, day in and day out. Our organization is an essential and critical resource in a part of the country that has very few safe spaces for survivors like Ozzie, and we're GRATEFUL for the opportunity to be here for him!
