Ten years of providing safety for vulnerable animals!

Celebrating TEN years!!!

Ten years is a huge milestone in the life of a nonprofit organization, especially one that quite simply asks people to show compassion for ALL living beings. It's a daunting mission, especially in the heart of rural Middle Tennessee.

We had EIGHT new pig intakes last month, and Baby Ozzie was one of the luckiest of the bunch. He's a 7-month old Yorkshire who escaped a home that was growing him for slaughter. This breed isn't really kept for anything else. On escape, he was badly injured by what could only be a vehicle accident, and he landed in a rural county shelter. His fate was still very perilous, until we scooped him up to safety.

Ozzie had NUMEROUS orthopedic injuries, which we had evaluated at the University of Tennessee. We also consulted with surgeons at Cornell University on his behalf. The consensus was that the best we can do is to allow him to live a pampered SANCTUARY BABE life for as long as his body is able. The injuries were too far healed to try any intervention, and we're now tasked with supporting his quality of life as he grows. We don't know how much time he will have before the weight of his body becomes too much to manage, but we're planning to make the most out of every second!

Odd Man Inn exists to provide lifelong Sanctuary Care to vulnerable animals and educate to inspire compassionate living. Ozzie is a perfect example of how we are fulfilling our mission, day in and day out. Our organization is an essential and critical resource in a part of the country that has very few safe spaces for survivors like Ozzie, and we're GRATEFUL for the opportunity to be here for him!

Ozzie may be one of our youngest residents, but Daisy is our eldest! She's a 16-year old white feral mix, and she was a key player in Odd Man Inn moving to Tennessee back in 2021. Seeing the beauty of a feral pig living a natural life in peace and safety was enough motivation for us to pack up and move the entire sanctuary from Washington State— which means Daisy was the catalyst for bringing all 159 of the pigs on this property under the care of Odd Man Inn.

I clearly recall sitting in the field with Daisy on my last scouting trip before we took over this huge place in Tennessee, and I said, "I promise I'll be back". I remember that conversation every single time I see Daisy in the field living her best life, and I'm proud that we are honoring the most sacred of commitments when a vulnerable animal finds safety in sanctuary. The commitment to protect them is not an easy one, but we do it day in and day out for nearly 200 animal residents.

In celebration of our TEN year anniversary, we are proud to announce the launch of our legacy giving circle, which we've affectionately named the Sanctuary Babe Society!

August is "Make a Will" month, and we've already begun welcoming new members into the society. If you'd like to learn more, please take a moment to look at the page we've so lovingly crafted to help you navigate your own planned giving.

If you're not sure how it works, we're happy to answer questions. You can email legacy@oddmaninn.org to schedule a call with any of us on the Planned Giving team.

From the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

As we cruise into celebrating our TEN year anniversary on October 2nd, I want to express how deeply I value your continued commitment to making this place a reality for the nearly 200 animal residents in a very rural part of the country—where animal advocates are in very short supply.

We're here because we're greatly needed. While it may often feel like those needs are overwhelming, we choose to focus on doing the very best we can for the ones who are fortunate enough to become Sanctuary Babes. The day they come into rescue is absolutely life-changing, and our efforts matter to each of them. We're proud to be here doing this work, and that's in no small part because of your support!

With Gratitude,

Wendy
