A Message from Susan Hammond, Adaptive Riding Program Director

Though Healing Hoof Steps began in 2017, the addition of the Adaptive Riding Program took place in Summer of 2020, five years ago! This new program has offered individuals with disabilities an opportunity to experience the rewarding benefits of horsemanship including the movement of a horse as well as an emotional connection.

Since horseback riding rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, this can be very therapeutic and can provide those with physical disabilities improvement with flexibility, balance, and muscle strength.  Adaptive horseback riding also provides individuals an opportunity to enjoy an outdoor, recreational activity and connection with a horse that can improve the cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being.

Adaptive riding programs lean on a team of volunteers from our the local community in order to offer such services. We are celebrating this 5-Year Anniversary by honoring the many from our community who passionately and willing give of their time and talents to assist in carrying out the Healing Hoof Steps Adaptive Riding Program mission!  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
