October is shaping up to be a full and meaningful month at the Ranch.

In just a few weeks, we’ll welcome our community for Oregon Remembers, an event that has brought together an incredible group of veterans, families, community partners, volunteers, and supporters. We’re looking forward to sharing this special day with all of you.

As always, you can get involved at the Ranch in plenty of ways this month. Whether you have a few hours to volunteer, join us for an event, or help us spread the word, we’re grateful to have you as part of this community.

🇺🇸 OREGON REMEMBERS - 12pm (noon) - October 24th, 2026 at The Ranch

At the heart of Oregon Remembers is the Oregon Memorial Traveling Wall, creating a place for our community to gather, remember, honor, and reflect. The ceremony will feature the Redmond and La Pine JROTC cadets, and our featured speaker, Jenn Donahue, PhD, retired U.S. Navy Captain, reminding us why we've come together, and how to carry the legacy forward.

Veteran Resource Fair | 10 AM–3 PM

Oregon Remembers Ceremony | 12 PM

The Veteran Resource Fair will bring together 15+ organizations serving veterans and their families across Central Oregon, making this an opportunity not only to honor those we have lost, but also to strengthen the connections and community supporting veterans today.

This event is free and open to the public. Please join us, and invite your friends, family, and neighbors [RSVP TO HELP US PLAN FOR SEATING].

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

It will take a community to make Oregon Remembers happen, and we still need up to 35+ volunteers to help us bring the event to life (especially parking and check-in help!).

We’ve created an online volunteer sign-up where you can see available jobs and shifts and choose what works best for you.

Whether you can give us a few hours or a larger part of the day, your help will make a real difference.

🤝 BUILDING CONNECTIONS ACROSS CENTRAL OREGON

Our First Tuesday gatherings continue to grow.

Each month, organizations serving veterans throughout Central Oregon come together at the Ranch to get to know one another, share what’s happening in their organizations, identify resources, and find better ways to collaborate.

Our October gathering was another strong one, and we're excited to see these relationships becoming something more than another networking meeting. We’re building genuine connections between the people doing this work so that, ultimately, veterans throughout our region are better connected to the community and resources available to them.

🦃 VETSGIVING NOVEMBER 16TH AT 3PM

It’s never too early to start planning for Vetsgiving!

Join us at the Ranch on Monday, November 16 at 3 PM for a shared meal and time together.

We’re looking for volunteers to help provide main dishes and sides for the meal. Thanks to some early volunteers, desserts are already covered!

Ingredient of the Month

CORN!

We planted a few rows of corn behind the pumpkin patch this year and they are producing!

Most of us just love the simplicity of boiling it with and slathering it with butter, topped with salt. But if you're looking for another option, this salad is fun to bring to your fall potlucks:

A Three Sisters Salad is usually some version of corn, beans and squash. Any bean or squash variety will do, so use your favorite!

• Start with a couple ears of corn, cook them and take of the kernels with a knife.
• Add your favorite can (or 1.5 cups cooked!) of beans.
• Add a couple cups of roasted squash (zucchini, yellow, acorn, butternut, delicata)
• Add some feta, minced red onion (or green onion), chopped cilantro and parsley, and season with 1/2 tsp of cumin, 1/2 tsp coriander.
• Dress it with a mix of 1/4 cup olive oil, 2 tbsp red wine vinegar and 2 tbsp lime juice, salt and pepper!

There is a lot happening here over the next several weeks, but all of it comes back to the same thing: bringing people together.
