Group Volunteering Fun

Did you know that Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail offers opportunities for group volunteering?

This month we had 30 people from Young Jains of America perform trail work as part of a service retreat. We also had one volunteer host their birthday party at one of our events! What a great way to bring your friends together while also giving back to the trail.

If you have a group interested in volunteering, you can read more here.

15,000+ Volunteer Hours

This month we surpassed 15,000 total volunteer hours. With the value of a volunteer hour in the DC area equaling $50, we have provided over $750,000 worth of volunteer support to the trail. That is something to be proud of!

You can see the breakdown of volunteer hours here.

Moth Madness Fun

We hosted our first mothing event on the Mount Vernon Trail for Moth Week. Over 50 participants gathered by the UV light to look at all of the wonderful night insects. Highlights included seeing an Abbot’s Sphynx Moth and an Isabella Tiger Moth.

July Recap

In July we hosted 4 volunteer events with 105 volunteers giving 235 volunteer hours.

Before/After Photo of the Month

Vegetation loves to creep onto the trail. But it doesn’t last long with FoMVT volunteers around. Removing overgrown vegetation prevents accidents and injuries.
