2025 AllTrails Stewards Fund

We’re honored to be named a recipient of the 2025 AllTrails Stewards Fund. Thanks to this support, we’ll continue our work of filling potholes on the Mount Vernon Trail. Our goal is to fill 300 potholes with support from this award! AllTrails is the world’s largest database of trails with information and reviews to help you find and plan your next outdoor adventure.

Thank you AllTrails!

Girl Scout Nation’s Capital Program Partner

We are now a Girl Scout Nation’s Capital program partner. We are excited to be able to more easily advertise to Girl Scout troops in the area to attend our volunteer events and nature programs.

As always, we welcome groups to come volunteer at our events. If you plan on having more than 10 people come on a particular weekend, just let us know via email (hello@mountvernontrail.org) no less than one week prior to the day of the event.

Mega Trash Bash on November 15th

We are hosting a Mega Trash Bash on November 15th in conjunction with Potomac Conservancy, Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation, and NOVA Cleanups. Each organization will be hosting their own event but we will collectively calculate the amount of trash picked up.

Register here for the Mega Trash Bash with FoMVT.

Shutdown Impacting Trail Facilities

The federal shutdown has impacted facilities on the trail. The trail itself remains open. Parking lots at TR Island, Gravelly Point, Jones Point and Fort Hunt are all closed. Parking at Columbia Island Marina, Daingerfield Island Marina and Belle Haven Park remain open. Restrooms on the trail are closed, but some trail adjacent restrooms are available at Gateway Park in Rosslyn, Island Time on Columbia Island, the Crystal City Water Park, Catboat Pizza on Daingerfield Island and at Mount Vernon Estates. The majority of GWMP staff are furloughed but are on call for emergent safety issues such as downed trees or broken bridge boards.

October Recap

In October we hosted 5 volunteer events with 165 volunteers giving 365 volunteer hours.

Before/After Photo of the Month

We took advantage of the Gravelly Point parking lot being closed due to the government shutdown to re-paint the faded crosswalk. This refresh will improve safety for all users.

You can check out more before/after photos here and donate to help defray the cost of paint and supplies.
