Last October marked five years since the Friends of the Mount signed a partnership agreement with the George Washington Memorial Parkway to address maintenance issues on the Mount Vernon Trail.

In those five years we’ve hosted 299 volunteer events, with 6,826 volunteers providing 16,490 volunteer hours improving the trail. In each of the last 3 years, volunteers have provided the equivalent of 2 full time staff improving the trail.
Our volunteers have removed 1,021 trail bumps, patched 273 potholes, and fixed 2,157 trail issues (since we started counting in 2023).

We’re not just volunteering. Our fundraising efforts led to installation of 7 new water fountains on the trail this year providing year round water along with water bottle fillers. We also replaced 5 bike racks and installed racks at 2 new locations.
