Trail Bumps Done

Exciting news! 🎉 We've officially finished removing trail bumps from all 18 miles of trail.

This volunteer work spanned from September 2021 to March 2025. Our 9 person volunteer team removed 1,000+ bumps and brought trail bump removal equipment to the trail 49 times! We invested over 600 volunteer hours to bump removal with volunteers spending 6-10 hours volunteering during a trail bump event. This work has prevented injuries and helped make the trail a safer place.

If you appreciate FoMVT removing trail bumps, please donate. The trail bump team will be focusing on pothole patching in the spring and summer before doing bump touch up work in the fall. Donations go towards gas to run the scarifier and generator and buying cold patch.

Royal Restaurant Fundraiser

Support Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail's Spring2Action campaign just by eating. Join us at Royal Restaurant in Alexandria on April 7th and 15% of your bill will be donated to us if you mention Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail. Supporting the trail has never been easier with just these four easy steps:

Step 1: Invite your friends to dinner.

Step 2: Make a reservation for April 7th.

Step 3: Eat lots of yummy food.

Step 4: Mention Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail to your waiter.

Mega Trash Event

On March 22nd we partnered with Potomac Conservancy and Friends of Dyke Marsh to host a mega trash event. Potomac Conservancy hosted a cleanup at Jones Point, Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail was at Belle Haven Park, and Friends of Dyke Marsh hosted a cleanup at Dyke Marsh. Across the three trash cleanup events 181 volunteers removed 2,505 pounds of trash from the Potomac River!! That is good news worth sharing.

You can watch a YouTube video of the trash bag collection here.

Tulip Walk and Bike Ride

Be sure to register for the Tulip Walk and Tulip Bike Ride. This year the walk and bike ride will end at the Netherlands Carillon where the carillonneurs will perform a music concert on the 53-bell carillon. This is one of our favorite events of the year.

March Recap

In March we hosted 5 volunteer events with 270 volunteers giving 585 volunteer hours. Highlights included hosting the Wellington Civic Association on March 8 near Collingwood Park.
