A Record Breaking Year!

We ended the year on a high note by breaking our yearly volunteer count. In 2025 we hosted 61 events with 1,963 volunteers contributing 4,382 volunteer hours. Thank you to everyone who came out this year to give back to the trail!

Help Shape Updates to the Trail Around the Power Plant

Share your thoughts about trail, safety, and waterfront improvements in Old Town North. The NPS invites you to help shape a plan for safety, trail, and waterfront improvements near the Old Town North neighborhood. Your input will guide future upgrades along George Washington Memorial Parkway, the Mount Vernon Trail, and the Potomac waterfront in connection with the proposed 18.8-acre mixed-use redevelopment district on the site of the former coal-fired power plant.

The meeting will take place January 12th from 6-7:30pm. Learn more about the meeting and register to attend via zoom here.

Volunteer for MLK Day of Service

Looking for something to do on MLK Day of Service? Register to attend our event near National Landing. We welcome groups to volunteer. If you plan on having more than 10 people coming for MLK Day, just let us know via email (hello@mountvernontrail.org).

December Recap

In December we hosted 3 volunteer events with 52 volunteers giving 122 volunteer hours. We also participated in the Alexandria Scottish Parade with Volunteer Alexandria.

Before/After Photo of the Month

Volunteers helped remove English Ivy from trees on the southern end of the trail. Removing this highly invasive species helps extend the longevity of these trees. You can check out more before/after photos here and donate to help us keep tools in the hands of volunteers.
