$1.7 million. That’s the value of the improvements that the all-volunteer Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail have made on the trail since partnering with the National Park Service in October 2020.

To celebrate, three MVT supporters are matching all donations received through 12/31, up to $8,550.

An $850,000 Volunteer Impact

Based on the value of a volunteer hour in DC, our volunteers have provided over $850,000 in labor improving the trail in the last five years. We hosted 302 events with 6,878 volunteers providing 16,612 volunteer hours.  In the last 3 years, we’ve provided the equivalent of 2 full time staff each year while fixing 2,956 trail issues.

$900,000 In Trail Improvements

We've worked with our partners at NPS to identify and secure funding for significant infrastructure improvements on the trail.

  • 13 new water fountains thanks to a grant we helped secure from the National Park Foundation and multiple individual and organizational donors.

  • 7 new bike racks thanks to a grant from Athletic Brewing.

  • 273 potholes filled thanks to support from the AllTrails Stewards Fund and our donors to purchase cold patch.

5 Ways To Support The Next 5 Years Of Trail Improvements

Last month we signed a new five year partnership agreement with NPS. We can accomplish so much more in the next five years with your help. There’s 5 ways that you can help:

  1. Donate - All donations doubled through December 31st!

  2. Volunteer - In just two hours you can make an impact you can see.

  3. Survey - Help us prioritize what we work on in the next 5 years.

  4. Follow Us - Our social media channels produce income. A follow and a like goes a long way to increase support for the trail.

  5. Enjoy the Trail - We love seeing you and saying hi on the trail.
