Motor Mondays is a Big Hit!

As you may know, we have kicked off a weekly event called MOTOR MONDAY at the Long Beach Racers shop.  This is an opportunity for ANYONE interested to spend some time at our new space, have a burger, turn a wrench, talk shop and hang out with friends. Young and old, all are welcome every Monday evening from 3pm-7pm! Youth, mentors and DSF Werks friends we hope to see you any Monday that you have available!

For more information about MOTOR MONDAYS please feel free to reach out!

Motor Monday  is not the official training program of DSF Werks, but it has been an opportunity to see our vision come to life! While we work on our long term curriculum and secure our mobile trailer, Motor Monday has been a great chance for everyone, including our young people and our mentors, to get together, eat a few burgers and work on some pretty impressive projects!

We have installed new wheel bearings and brakes on the Toyota Corona and we're even using some 3D printed engines and parts as teaching tools! Come check out what projects we will be working on next!

NOTE:  There will be NO Motor Monday on May 29th, in observance of Memorial Day. See you on June 5!

May is Foster Care Awareness Month

While DSF Werks is not a Foster Care organization, it is our mission to serve the young people who emancipate out of the system with little resources and no place to go. We want to be a solution to the problem, and the problem is that 50% of adolescents aging out of foster care system will be homeless or incarcerated within 2 years.

This month we encourage you to spend some time educating yourself about the Foster Care system, especially here in California where we have the largest number of young people in Foster Care of any state in the nation with approximately 83,000 children in care.

We also appreciate and applaud those who are already a part of serving the foster care community. The Foster families past, present, and future, the policy makers, child welfare professionals, advocates, mentors, educators, mental health professionals and volunteers who support young people in foster care and in their journey afterwards. There is a place for each of us in this effort. Participation with DSF Werks might be yours!
