Spud Impact Grant promotes representation in library of Horizon Middle School. |
|
|
|
Horizon Middle School teacher, Daniel Dooher, applied for a project to promote inclusion and representation in the school library. Mr. Dooher states, "We worked hard to select students that were representative of our student population, and hope to continue to expand with more photos in future years. With the help of Rick Westra Photography, we were able to purchase 10 large framed photos of our students reading in the library and provide each student who participated with an 8x10 photo to say thank you for their participation. The response to this work has been very positive among students and staff. I appreciate MLEF's willingness to support this project! Again, a huge "thank you" to Rick Westra and RWP for helping me make this project a reality!"

Spud Impact : $10,000 |
|
We provide grants and designated gifts to Moorhead Area Public Schools, educators, and staff for the main areas of Academics, Activities, Arts and Athletics. The Legacy Foundation has awarded annual Spud Impact grants totaling $3,000 - $10,000 each fall. In 2021, with the help of memorials and designated gifts, MLEF awarded $10,000 in grant funding toward 13 projects and activities led by Moorhead staff. |

Food For Thought : $27,000 |
|
MLEF provides milk and snack to students in need so they can learn at their greatest potential. Nearly 2 out of 5 Moorhead students currently experience food insecurity, and milk & snack break is not covered by state-funded meal programs. 100% of your Giving Hearts Day gifts to MLEF go toward Food For Thought, feeding K-4th graders in Moorhead. In the 2021-22 school year, Giving Hearts Day proceeds and designated gifts totaling $27,000 helped 158 students. |

Spud Scholars : $111,500 |
|
Since 1991, Spud Scholars has awarded over $2 Million in scholarships to 2,000 Moorhead High grads. Only the interest from invested funds is awarded each year, ensuring the perpetuity of the program. Many scholarships are awarded directly by the foundation, while others are sponsored by individuals, families, businesses and organizations in the community. This year's Phonathon and designated gifts provided for 92 scholarships totaling $111,500. |

Spud History : Memorabilia & SpudMobile |
|
MLEF provides support for reunions and Spud History through in-kind donations, designated gifts and grants. The first large-scale project involved installation of a 50 foot History Wall at Horizon Middle School. Memorabilia - largely donated - is on display, along with a touch screen database containing scanned yearbooks, news articles and more. A truck was recently donated with the intent to become the SpudMobile. Students at the newly opened Career Academy gave it its final tuneups. (Watch for the SpudMobile in parades this fall!) Future projects include a commemorative history book and a second history wall for the new high school. Spud History has helped host 6 class reunions from the fall of 2021 through the summer of 2022. |
