Updates on PSR Maine's Environmental Legislative Priorities

Offshore Wind Procurement (LD-1895)

An amended LD-1895 Offshore Wind Procurement bill was introduced on May 25. The amended bill represents negotiations with key stakeholders to address their concerns, including provisions negotiated by the lobster and fishing communities on the siting of wind turbines outside of lobster management area 1.

The Bill builds upon recommendations from Maine's Offshore Wind Roadmap that
were developed with input from fishing industry, labor and environmental groups, businesses, the University of Maine, state government, and more. Offshore wind development is a key strategy for meeting Maine's climate and renewable energy obligations. It will reduce the region’s reliance on imported fossil gas and oil and create new jobs.

A working session for the amended bill is scheduled for this week. Updates on this Bill and any recommended actions will be provided.
