Intern Spotlight!

PSR Maine is thrilled to announce our first student intern. Michael Brown, from Fairfield, Maine, is a first-year student at the University of Southern Maine studying political science. At USM, Michael is involved in the Mainestage Theater Program and a part of the Honors Community. At PSR Maine, Michael has been working with the chair of the Nuclear Weapon’s Committee, Dr. Douglas Dransfield, on several nuclear related research projects.

“This internship has me gathering information from many different places to help identify what cities and towns might support a Bank from the Brink resolution. I’m looking at news articles to city council meeting minutes and many more.” said Michael, “What I love about this internship is that it’s not only a topic that I want to pursue in my future work, and I’m learning new skills, but also that the people here understand that I am a student first and that has let me pursue everything I want to do in college.”

Save the Date:

VFP Golden Rule Peace Boat comes to Maine starting June 25.

The Golden Rule is a project of Veterans For Peace. They aim to advance Veterans For Peace opposition to nuclear weapons and war, and to do so in a dramatic fashion.

They have recovered and restored the original peace ship, the Golden Rule, that set sail in 1958 to stop nuclear weapons tests in the Marshall Islands, and which inspired the many peace makers and peace ships that followed.

The reborn Golden Rule is sailing once more, to show that nuclear abolition is possible, and that bravery and tenacity can overcome militarism.

Golden Rule events in Portland will start June 25. The boat will be in harbor June 26 and 27. It will then travel to Bath and be in harbor June 29 and 30. More details on these events and how to participate in next month's E-News.
