Health Professionals: You Can Help Protect the Endangerment Finding!

The Trump administration, in an attempt to topple decades of protective climate and public health policies, is seeking to overturn the Endangerment Finding. The EPA issued this finding in 2009 after a rigorous public comment period and scientific review, which concluded that the buildup of greenhouse gases contributes to global warming and that these pollutants harm public health and welfare.

The Endangerment Finding requires EPA to regulate these pollutants under the Clean Air Act and has formed the bedrock of important greenhouse gas regulations. Now, the EPA is looking to roll back this finding. As health professionals, we know this science is settled.

It’s essential that we tell EPA to protect the Endangerment Finding. Submit your comment now to protect this vital regulation. A template and instructions are included. Written comments are due September 15.

PSR Maine stands with Governor Mills' statement on the issue:

“Maine is already contending with extreme weather and flooding that threatens our environment, public health, and economy. Allowing unchecked greenhouse gas emissions will only exacerbate these challenges and leave us susceptible to dangerous pollution from other states carried here by prevailing winds.”

NEW: Federal Resolution to Halt & Reverse

Nuclear Arms Race

On the 80th anniversary of the Trinity test, Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) and Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.)

introduced S.Res.323, which is a Senate companion to H.Res.317, introduced by Reps.

Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Jill Tokuda (D-HI), with Rep. Chellie Pingree as an original co-sponsor, urging the United States to lead the world to halt and reverse the nuclear arms race.

Both these resolutions include the essential policy changes advocated for by the Back from the Brink campaign and call on the President to work with Russia and China to reduce nuclear arsenals; to renounce the first use of nuclear weapons; to limit the President’s sole authority to start nuclear war; to end the production of new nuclear weapons; and to maintain the global moratorium on nuclear testing.

80 Years After Trinity Test, RECA Expanded to Cover Downwinders...For Now

We are proud to share an important win that was just achieved in Congress — the restoration and expansion of RECA (Radiation Exposure Compensation Act), which expired last year. The program will now have increased funding and be available in additional states, providing medical treatment for thousands more Americans poisoned by our government’s own nuclear weapons testing and production. Thanks to a broad coalition and tireless work of Downwinders, RECA was recently passed into law, a long overdue step toward nuclear justice that gives momentum for our continued advocacy.

New Report from UCS: Science and Democracy Under Siege

A new analysis from the Union of Concerned Scientists documents the systemic and coordinated attacks on science since January 2025. In nearly six months, the Trump Administration has launched 402 attacks on science, which is markedly more than in his entire first term.

People are already paying the price of these attacks on science: children unnecessarily exposed to lead, families denied clean air, and lives needlessly lost in preventable disease outbreaks. Dismantling science harms every member of the US public—but especially Black, Brown, Indigenous, rural, and low-and-moderate income communities. You can read the full report recapping the first six months of the Trump administration here.
