Game of Throws Returns June 6
|
Game of Throws, presented by Back Alley Boutique & Bud Bar, is right around the corner and Outreach is looking forward to gathering again at Wolfman Woods Disc Golf Course on June 6 for our 4th Annual Amateur Disc Golf Tournament. This event has become a fun way to bring people together for a day of friendly competition while supporting Outreachโs mission to provide food, shelter & connections to the Polk County Community.
Wolfman Woods offers two course layouts that make the day accessible for a wide range of players. The WHT (Long Layout - 5402 ft) is designed for those looking for a more challenging round, while the ORNG (Short Layout - 3583 ft) offers a shorter, more beginner-friendly option that is well suited for families and casual players. Both divisions are open to all ages and skill levels, and players are welcome to take part in both rounds.
The WHT Division will be played from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by the ORNG Division from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. A buffet-style lunch will be available for purchase, along with other food and beverages throughout the day, giving players and guests plenty of time to enjoy the course and spend time together.
Prizes will be given to the overall winners of both layouts, with Closest to the Pin and an Ace Pot also available for those competing in the WHT Division. We are grateful to Back Alley Boutique & Bud Bar for presenting this yearโs tournament and to Jackson Martin for helping make another Game of Throws at Wolfman Woods possible.

Lifeworks: A Path Toward Greater Stability
|
Lifeworks is a program that helps Polk County residents work toward self-sufficiency through one-on-one support and goal planning. Participants meet individually with a case manager to talk through their situation, identify specific goals they want to achieve and build a plan that will accomplish their objectives.
For some, that plan may focus on finding better employment, building job skills or returning to school. For others, it may include strengthening household finances, purchasing a home, addressing barriers to work or connecting with resources that support long-term progress. The goal of Lifeworks is to help participants move forward in practical, manageable ways.
Because every situation is different, the program is built around personal goals and steady support. Lifeworks is designed for those who are committed to improving their lives, their financial stability and building a stronger, independent future for themselves and their families.

Outreach recently had the opportunity to partner with The Meeting Place for a special cooking demonstration led by Pantry Manager, Cliff Cameron. During the class, Cliff showed participants how to prepare a few simple and refreshing dishes, including pasta salad, cucumber salad and fruit salad.
The demonstration offered a chance to share easy recipe ideas that can be made with familiar ingredients while also creating time for conversation and connection. Gatherings like this are a meaningful way to bring people together around food and practical skills.
We value collaborations among local organizations, and in partnership with The Meeting Place, Outreach was happy to be part of an opportunity that encouraged learning, fellowship and community connection.

TryonEstates Volunteer Resource Fair
|
Outreach enjoyed the recent volunteer resource fair at Tryon Estates - Acts Retirement community. Our Volunteer Coordinator, Alyssa Davidson, had a great time while meeting attendees, sharing information about Outreachโs programs and services, volunteer opportunities and thanking so many for their support.
|
Outreach hosted an Easter Egg Hunt at Horse Creek Village, where the children of the neighborhood searched for eggs hidden by our very own Theresa Thompson. Families enjoyed the sunny afternoon together as children explored and played.

April: The Month of Volunteer Appreciation
|
April is a special month at Outreach as we take time to recognize and celebrate our wonderful, dedicated volunteers. Their support, hard work and generosity make a meaningful difference in all that we do and Outreach would not be able to provide the level of support and care we do without them.
From April 20 through April 23, we will celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week and honor the many individuals who give so much to Outreach. Our volunteers share not only their time, but also their energy, effort and connection to our community and we are deeply grateful for all they bring to this work.

Volunteering Since: 2017
Rick has been volunteering with Outreach’s Food Pantry since 2017. He plays an important role in keeping things moving each Tuesday, whether that means unloading MANNA deliveries at Outreach, driving the Outreach van to pick up a delivery or picking up our Food Lion orders.
We are grateful for Rick’s steady support and willingness to help wherever he is needed.
Fun Fact: Rick and his wife, Maryann, are also familiar faces at Outreach events like Empty Bowls, where they help run the drink station.
