Thanks to supporters like you and our valuable volunteers, VIM-NH had another successful year of providing free care to the underserved in partnership with Cross Roads House.
Launching and running VIM-NH has made me more aware of the significant role social determinants of health play in healthcare, such as food security, access to housing, and a patient's socio-economic status. Some things cannot be solved by referring a patient to a specialist, or by writing a prescription for medication. I was ready to take it to another level to tackle some of these barriers to care. To acquire more skills to address these complex issues that affect a patient's overall health, I started law school at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law last fall. I just finished my first year and I am completing my summer internship at the Department of Health and Human Services in Concord. Here, I am learning about the different roles lawyers play in the department., and how it relates to healthcare outcomes. Medicine and law intersect in various ways and my goal is to find out where I can best contribute most effectively with my dual backgrounds.
Special thanks to the volunteer providers and staff who have stepped in and helped to cover many shifts at the Cross Roads House this past year. Thank you all for your support.
