Kitchen

Kitchen Rental

The NCFW shared use kitchen is gearing up for a busy season! With 5 Astoria Sunday Market vendors planning on using the kitchen, plus prep for Crab Fest and other events, we feel like we are making good progress in connecting with local food producers in need of commercial kitchen space. That being said, we are always looking for more opportunities to get people in here to use our kitchen! Reach out to andy@northcoastfoodweb.org if this could be you!

Cooking Classes

Nord is picking up steam! Three workshops in and Chef Nord’s classes are a hit! His most recent class offered an exploration of salad and how exciting and encompassing it can be. Students got to progressively taste through a salad as it was composed and embellished, learning about balancing flavors and textures, eating seasonally, using what you have on hand, and making it fun! Stay in the loop and click here to check out upcoming classes.

Speaking of classes, our partnership with OSU Master Food Preservers kicked off its monthly series with an overview of water bath canning and a hands-on lab session on jams! Terri Emrich from Rainer Gardens Farm is a true pro when it comes to food preservation, and a wonderful teacher. We’ll be staying ahead of the seasons with our classes, so that students leave class not just with a jar of tasty preserved food but with the knowledge and experience to tackle the upcoming season of food preservation!

Next month we’ll be exploring the world of pickling and fermentation, followed in June by a class on preserving tomatoes, and then into the world of pressure canning.
