Issue No. 2

March 2024

An Amazing Start to 2024!

Friends of the Children Leaders Visited Capitol Hill

Last month, our Executive Director, Kelsey Lewis and Board Chair, Dr. Jesus N. Valero joined leaders from 30 communities to call on Members of Congress to prioritize youth impacted by foster care, poverty and systemic barriers. A highlight of the trip was the opportunity to visit with Congressman Burgess Owens, a champion for our youth and families who has visited our clubhouse in Kearns. Our team also shared stories of our resilient youth and discussed the impact of our professional mentoring model with staff from Senator Mitt Romney's office and Senator Mike Lee's office.

All together, Friends of the Children leaders held more than 70 meetings on Capitol Hill . It was a great opportunity to amplify the stories of our incredible youth and connect with our elected leaders!

Little Learners Explored the World of Science

Our youth recently enjoyed a visit to Little Beakers Utah, a science lab designed specifically for kids! They loved wearing lab coats and safety goggles as they learned about lab equipment, chemical processes, and even how to make slime!

A big thank you to Little Beakers Utah for welcoming our young scientists!

Meet Our New Development Director: Glady Larsen

Gladyris, affectionately known as Glady, brings her experience and strong commitment to making a difference in communities through philanthropy. Glady is passionate about understanding and breaking down the barriers that hold people back in local communities and across the state of Utah. As Executive Director Kelsey Lewis says, "We are thrilled to welcome Glady Larsen to Friends - Utah as our new Development Director. Glady's extensive experience and proven track record in fundraising makes her a perfect fit for our growing organization."
